Why it matters
Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant gases that have to be safely removed before the unit can be recycled, and older TVs and monitors can contain hazardous components. Both are classed as hazardous waste and handled through a licensed WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) route — logged under the correct waste code on your collection's transfer note, the same as every other item we take.
Cookers & ovens
Slot-in cookers, built-under and built-in ovens — we disconnect what we safely can, carry it out and take it to be recycled correctly. If it's still wired to the mains, a qualified person will need to isolate it first; ask when you book if you're not sure which applies to yours.
