A practical, no-pressure guide to clearing a loved one’s home, including probate and what is worth keeping.
Clearing the home of someone who has died is one of the hardest jobs a family faces. There is no right pace, and nobody should rush you. This guide covers the practical side so that the rest can wait.
You do not need someone to visit the house to find out what it will cost. You can send photos of each room and get a price back, so the first conversation does not have to happen in the house itself. For a whole house the price is agreed from the photos before anything is booked.
We work room by room, load the van and sweep as we go. Point out anything fragile or anything you still want to keep before we begin, because once it is in the van it is on its way. Collections are carried out by Invent Recycling Ltd, a registered waste carrier, licence CBDU497669, and you get a waste transfer note afterwards.
Unfortunately, clearing a house after a death attracts people who are not licensed, and some who take items of value without saying so. Check the carrier’s licence before anyone starts; our guide to checking a licence takes two minutes.
When you are ready, see our house clearance page.
Price it yourself in about a minute, or send us a photo.
